READERS BLOCK

A stumbling block !

For last two days I ve had a real reading block for the first time in a while ,was trying to get through a short Saul Bellow novella but just couldn’t get in to it so put it to one-sided and tried I saw ramallah from my arabic reading challenge and that didn’t grab me ,so said on twitter was having problems and mar a good friend on twitter suggest ya only have one and that was the new Zafon tried 2 pages and was grabbed so spent afternoon looking for something eventually settle for either Bolano’s nazi literature in america or 84 charing cross road by Helen Haniff and decide on Bolano that has done the trick shot through 80 pages this evening no problem .now this is a question what does everyone else do when they ve readers block .

What do you do ?

Bolano saves my reading block

  1. This is something that will happen to all of us book geeks sooner or later, I fear. Just calm down, do something else, relax.
Your love for literature and books is still there, it just needs some rest and refreshment.
Often that block comes with a general change in everyday life – like holidays, e.g.
So, my dear Stu, everything is just fine – and as I could see, you’ve already found a book that released you from that block! x

(and btw: a writing block is at least as worse as a reading block …)

    1. thanks tata ,yes think is holiday want swomething lighter (is bolano light ) ,but got short chapters and like hundreds short stories ,all the best stu

  2. Arrghh..the dreaded ‘reader’s block’ Stu. I tend to just go and do something other than reading, or as you’ve done, just pick up something that really ‘floats ma boat’ at that moment.
Good luck with the Bolano. I’ve heard great things about it!
    Warmest
    Rob

    1. yes ,should read it before now rob been sat to long ,it’s ideal short chapters like a collection of short stories really ,all the best stu

  3. Reader’s block is awful isn’t it? I had it for a month once – I just had a month of not finding a book I liked. They all felt dead boring and I didn’t really want to read anything. Maybe I should have just taken a break. I’m not going to die if I don’t read a book for one day.

I usually go for young adult, or a crime book in that mood, or an old favourite to re-read – or an author I know I like.

I’m going through semi-reader’s block now. I’m enjoying my book, Uncle Tom’s Cabin but reading it really slow. It’s quite an easy read, but some days I’m just utterly distracted by anything… usually blogs hehe.

In a way this is a good book to get book block through – it’s good, not very challenging and it’s one I’ve been wanting to get out of my TBR for a long time.

    1. thanks for your fist comment fiona ,yes luckily was a few days this time have in past had it for weeks ,very good so far ,all the best stu

  4. Nazi Literature in the Americas is flat out hilarious, brilliant etc-hope you will post on it-we all get the reading blocks at times

  5. Took me six months to get over my reading block and now that I am, I wonder if I’m becoming the Salinger of book reviews as I’m writing them, but I’m not posting them up. Not yet, anyway.

    1. look forward to reading them when you set them free ,hopefully not in thirty years lol like j d ,all the best stu p.s pleased you got over block

  6. When I have readers block I tend to pick up something really fast paced – normally a thriller. I am normally disappointed by them, but their lack of depth encourages me to get back to my usual reading habits!!

    1. think thats why i choose bolano its got short chapters and speeds along ,all the best stu

  7. I think a reading block of two days’ duration is what I call ‘taking a breather,’ but it is distressing if you want to read but can’t. With me it is usually because I am struggling with a book, but won’t admit it.

Which reminds me that one of the books I am ‘currently reading’ hasn’t been touched in a fortnight; time to call it quits and find something new?

Hope you enjoy the Bolano. I am very interested to hear how that turns out.

    1. thanks ,change current reads always a bit lazy changing them ,think because i m on hoilday and wanting to read ,all the best stu
