Don Quixote week five I m in a cage !

Not the best of times for the Don this section also we finished the first part of the book and marked the half way part of our read along ,we hear many new tales the tale of a rich farmer and his daughter ,a Shepard ,the don is brought home and there is much sorrow at his demise by those near him .

Two new things connect to Don Quixote have come to my attention this week ,the first is the polyglot project ,where you can try to read the Don in the original spanish and use their translation tool to get passages translated as you do so ,also I have got the due out soon OUP a very short introduction to spanish literature which I m reading at moment to give a bit of background to the Don also place it in the history of spanish book and where to go after the book .

How has your week been ?

  1. A good week for me and DQ this week – having really not enjoyed a couple of the interwoven novels, I’ve really enjoyed DQ in the cage and his return home, and all the little side adventures etc before the “third sally”.

Due to me having the house to myself for a couple of hours last night, I’ve now done most of this week’s read already!

    1. oh great ,I m going to have mine read early as got family over weekend usually read it on sunday read for posting that night ,all the best stu

  2. Having dabbled in Spanish literature here and there over the years, Stu, I’m very interested in seeing what you think about your OUP book on the subject. Some of my favorites in addition to DQ are Juan Ruiz’ Book of Good Love (a long, scandalous medieval metafictional poem playing with topoi from Ovid and Islamic literature), the anonymous Lazarillo de Tormes (the pre-DQ father of the picaresque novel), and Miguel de Unamuno’s 20th century Niebla (in which the main character picks a fight with the narrator in the middle of the novel because he wants to be more than just a “fictional entity”). Javier Cercas, Javier Marías, y Enrique Vila-Matas are contempo Spanish authors I also like. OK, back to Cervantes now because I’m still way behind… Cheers!

    1. I ve not long got unsmuno three exemplary novels ,have read fair few modern writers rivas ,zafon ,axatga feel need to read more mid to early 20th century writers ,all the best stu

  3. I’m a little ahead because I go on holiday next week; some technical difficulites associated with lugging around monster tomes! As for the reading itself, it remains a pleasure. In my opinion even more so in part 2…

    1. oh have nice time yes one large book can take up a lot space and DQ is a very big vol ,all the best stu

    1. sorry tom to hear that hope you do catch up ,read your post other day so understand completly ,all the best stu
