The other day on twitter a German twitter friend Nachdufter (Tati) ask what I was reading I said Cat and mouse ,she said she had a problem with grass and like his book ,but not the man so much .So a quick question on twitter last night and some great replies from Rachel and John brought up Marquez because of his views is unpopular in some latin american communities .Evelyn Waugh well he was a very strong and opinionated character .Dickens due to his disregard in real life to the poor and Nietzsche who’s beyond good and evil I read but has had connections with fascism ,mainly to his sister promoting his book as a right-wing work .Now another I can think I ve read is Aleister Crowley whose novel the diary of a drug fiend I read many years ago he was called the great beast and dabbled in the occult .
SO HAVE YOU EVER READ A BOOK BY A WRITER YOU DON;T LIKE AS A PERSON ?

It’s never been a problem for me Stu. I appreciate a good book anytime regardless of how the author looks like and how he or she behaves. It is very much the same about how I feel about George Michael, the singer, has always been my idol, he writes beautiful songs. Although what he did in his later years disappoints me, but it is his songs that I still listen to when I need a dance or when I’m feeling blue.
I fell same about Morrissey jov ,on whole I ve not problem just wondered if it does infulence some people ,all the best stu
Good question, Stu.
I have read a few Jeffrey Archer books and enjoyed them but I’m not a fan of the man himself.
well he does have a good imagination ,as he made up huge parts of his younger life ,all the best stu
Having read a lot of Nietzche, when I was younger, there’s no way he would have supported the Nazi’s. The whole idea of the Ubermensch (superman) was to escape herd mentality, so to blindly follow a regime without thought would have had Nietzche’s tongue lashing all & sundry with his sarcasm & ire. I understand his sister linked his works in with hitlers regime, for self promotion.
I think a writer would have to be really offensive to stop me reading them, if their writing was good & offhand I can’t think of any.
ps. whats wrong with Morrisey, lol.
well mr morrissey does have a habit of saying silly things ,agree with nietzche comment ,it was his sister that promote the nazis doctrine of his work ,all the best stu
I don’t really know a lot about authors and didn’t know anything about them really before blogging, so this was never a concern. I always approach it as a book rather than as the authors thoughts, I guess.
I ve always had a thing about where writers come from ,just me lol ,all the best stu
I’ve always been put off Hemingway because of him being a total misogynist. I don’t care if you are the master of prose, if you hate women, you ain’t for me!
yes hemingway wasn’t a nice man in lot ways ,have read his books but not for a long while ,all the best stu
Last year I reread The Songmaster by Orson Scott Card and couldn’t believe the gay bashing in it. Turns out that the man himself seems to encourage such activity (from articles I have read posted online). Now I find that I can’t pick up one of his books and if I hear an audio one on the radio I find I have to change the channel. Even though he has written a lot of well received books, I don’t see that I’ll be reading them.
oh no I ll avoid him too that just isn’t right on any level ,all the best stu
