novella reading weekend start post

Simon over at stuck in books ,ask people to join in Novella reading weekend well I started last night with a funny dirty little war by the Argentina writer Osvaldo Soriano .a book that follows a village splitting and fighting as peronist and non peronist’s .a fast paced book so far and a new argentina writer to me .

next on pile after this is The Pearl John Steinbeck

  1. Sounds like a fun challenge, Stu. Glad you’re giving something of a nod to Steinbeck too. The Pearl is OK but given that he’s working in the confines of retelling a traditional tale, it’s not his best literary creation. Still enjoyable reading though.

    1. It was ok rob Just finished it hard to stray when retelling a story but his writing is always so beautiful even the ordinary of his is better than most others ,all the best stu

  2. Those look like interesting reads. I’m only starting to discover novellas, but I very much enjoyed the ones I read. I’d recommend Chess by Stefan Zweig 🙂

  3. The Pearl looks especially good to me. I like Steinbeck, even though I don’t read him very often. Have a great time with your ‘challenge’!
