  1. Sorry, stu, I would love to join, but it’s not a good time for me over Christmas. I am planning a readalong in March or April for this book. I agree, it’s a bit much to read on your own. 🙂

Good luck and I hope some people will be able to join you.

  2. This would have been fun, but as you know, I read this earlier this year & although I loved it, not this soon.I have jut finished Persepolis & am about to start ” The Master of Go by Yasunari Kawabata. Glad you,re back & a fantastic book to kick of your new adventure. Best of,
    Parrish.

    1. thanks Gary ,yes have planned all year to finish with this ,just finish borges labyrinths ,strange that ll be three latin american books in a few weeks as read library at night just before the borges ,all the best stu

  3. Enjoy your read, Stu, but I won’t be joining in on this one I’m afraid. I have been thinking about tackling a chunkster over the holidays but if I do it will be one I already own (don’t have this one).

When are you starting W&P? I am tempted to join in with this one.

  4. Really loved Borges, probably the first Latin-American writer I was into, him & Paz. Yesterday picked up from a fantastic little 2nd hand bookshop here in Canterbury, a book of poetry by Pablo Neruda, which I’m enjoying.
    Best of’

  5. Hi Stu, catching up on my fave blogs. Glad you’re planning to stay around for at least a while longer! I have had 2666 on my TBR shelf for at least a year, and everytime I read about someone getting to it I tell myself “I have to do it”, but alas right now I’m trying to do a 3 month Mahfouz “The Cairo Trilogy” readalong which started this month and I’ve otten into only a few chapters of the first book so far.

I’m curious what you’ll think of 2666, and when I do finally get to 2666 (when…???) and when I comment on my thoughts, I look forward to your feedback!

    1. I had Cairo trilogy out from library earlier this year but had to return it unread promised myself to get to it at some point ,will by individual parts and read that way ,all the best stu

  6. I absolutely loved The Savage Detectives but have been nervous to read 2666 because I’m not sure how all the violence against women in the story is handled or how I’d react to it; that’s always sort of a deal breaker for me. I’ll be really interested to see what you think of it, though!

    1. I’ll let you know I ve had it over a year and bit same why not read it but had said to myself all year must read it at end of year ,so start next year on a cleanish slate ,all the best stu

  7. Welcome back, stu! It’s one of my favorite books. I’m rereading parts of it by next year. I would have joined you as I will not resist any reading of Bolano. But this is short notice. I’ve already planned for some 3 or 4 books to read until the end of the year.

  8. I read this last year and so won’t be joining you, but I urge you to read it slowly. I loved reading one part a month. Allowing 6 months to read/think about the book helped me to appreciate it a lot more. I hope you enjoy it 🙂

  9. My 2666 is coming through the mail as we speak. I am planning to read this end of next year. I am in a reading slump now and can’t handle any 900 pages book.

I will be interested to hear what you think about this! 🙂
