Tomorrow I am in London at the actual shortlist party and spending the day at London book fair. So as are tradition is we have announced the shadow shortlist , between the 8 members of our jury this year we have read 95 books each book had at least five people read them . So our shortlist is as follows tomorrow we will find out how our list compares to the actual list.

The story of Lost child by elena ferrante
That is our six it was very close with one book just missing by a hair making our six so from Japan to France we have our six.
Excellent choices – the “missing by a hair” book being Tram 83 is another solid choice. Don’t envy you having to pick one of those 6 – could be some passionate discussions.

I don’t paul I’m assuming that it will be on independent early as it always was in iffp days

I haven’t read these books of course, though I’m interested in the Lianke and Oe in particular, but how lovely you’ll be at the shortlist party (again?). I look forward to reading how your illustrious (and I mean this) panel compares with the judges.
