The caine prize has been announced today set up in memory of michael caine of booker it awards a prize to best writing in africa this year there was over a hundred entries

I went to see a talk on the Caine prize at the Cheltenham festival last year. I’m not a big fan of short stories so the actual winner doesn’t bother me, but they were good to listen to and some of the previous winners have gone on to write novels that sound interesting.I think the work that this prize does to help new African authors is the main plus point of this award.
yes helps get people thinking about african lit and is a good guide to who may write a good novel at some point ,the only downpoint is that its just in english ,all the best stu
